W. L. Redmond’s Body Found in the Mississippi.

On Friday evening last two fishermen were setting night lines six miles below Bellevue, near Gohlman’s wood yard, when they discovered the head of a body entangled in some drift wood. Remembering the sudden disappearance of W. L. Redmond eight days previous, their suspicions were aroused, when they proceeded to the body and with considerable difficulty extricated it from the underbrush and brought it ashore. They then informed several farmers in the immediate vicinity, who proceeded to the place where the corpse lay and recognized it as that of W. L. Redmond, stating to the fishermen that a reward of $50 had been offered by the widow of the deceased and that upon his delivery in Bellevue they would be entitled to the same. The body was immediately conveyed to Bellevue, laid out in Davis’s warehouse, and the friends and relatives notified. The body was in a rapid state of decomposition and was greatly bloated, almost beyond recognition. The funeral took place from the residence and the remains were conveyed from the warehouse to the cemetery. The grief-stricken widow and family, consisting of 6 children, are left with a good home, and Levi Keck and wife, who were summoned by telegram by Mrs. Redmond after the finding of the body, inform us that he was a member of the A. O. U. W. and his family will receive $2000 from that order, that it is also supposed that he held a $1000 policy in the Masonic Insurance Co., of Preston, and a policy for $5000 in the Carter Oak Life Insurance Co., of Hartford. But as no administrator has yet been appointed, his private papers have not been examined and the exact status of his business affairs cannot be definitely ascertained.
