Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa for Mrs. Melvin Joiner at 402 South Matteson who died Monday evening at the Jackson County Public Hospital.
The Rev. Russell Fate will officiate, with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Haylock-O’Hara Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Von Schrader was born in Maquoketa on February 2, 1889, the daughter of Charles and Emma Jean Mitchell Von Schrader. She attended Rockford Preparatory School in Rockford, Illinois and graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, in 1912.
On September 1, 1914 she married Melvin Joiner in Maquoketa. She was a long-time active member of the Maquoketa Library Board, the P. E. O. Club, and the United Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Lozler of Des Moines and Mrs. Robert (Charlotte) Child of North Ridge, California; two sons, Charles W. Joiner of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Otis W. Joiner of Muscatine; two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Bertha) Blythe of Williamsburg and Rosamond Von Schrader of Rochester, Minnesota; one brother, Burr of Davenport; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Joiner was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
