SHAW. – Phillip Rodger Shaw, was born Sept. 25, 1825, at Sherborne, Somersetshire, England, and died after a short illness in Maquoketa, Iowa, Feb. 16, 1905, aged 79 yrs, 4 mos and 21 das.
At the age of 21 he came to America and located at Springfield, Ill, where he was married, Oct. 15, 1858, to Miss Sarah Abigail Wimberly, who survives him. This union was blessed with ten children, seven of whom survive to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father, as follows: Ben, John and Bert of Maquoketa, and Harry of Lyons, Mrs. Laura Boglan of Calamus, Iowa, Mrs. Jennie O’Dell of Geneva, Minnie and Miss Stella, still in the family at home.
The deceased came to Iowa in 1870, and three years ago became a resident of Maquoketa. He was an adherent of the Episcopal church and his Christian faith of a blessed immortality, was a source of comfort and hope to him, and his family in his last days.
Funeral services were held at the home on South Main Street, on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m., and burial in Mt. Hope cemetery. Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiating.
