Thomas Wilbur

This community was very much surprised and shocked Thursday morning to hear that Thomas Wilbur was dead. He had been in rather poor health for some time, but was not really ill until the day before he died, when he was attacked with apoplexy, and he died Thursday morning, June 25, at 1 o’clock. Thomas Wilbur was born Oct. 14, 1817, at Howard, Steuben County, New York. In 1849 he married Miss Anne Belden at Hornellsville, N.Y. In 1850 they moved they moved to Kentucky where they remained for six years, removing in 1856 to Maquoketa, Iowa, where they have since resided. Deceased leaves a wife, two daughters, Mrs. George W. Trout of this city, and Mrs. G. W. Sackett of Geneva, Illinois, and one son, Stuart, of this city, to mourn the loss of a faithful, affectionate, and indulgent husband and father. Deceased was several times elected to important local offices in this city and he was always faithful to every trust. He had long been an honored member of Helion Lodge, A. F. & A. M. and several of the members of that organization attended the funeral in a body. The services were held at the house yesterday afternoon at 4 o’clock and were conducted by the Rev. Oadams.
