MRS. SARAH GOODENOW DEAD.
Highly Respected Resident Answers
Summons Early Wednesday Morning, Funeral Today.

Mrs. Sarah Goodenow, after a several weeks illness, passed away on Wednesday morning at five o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. O. Butterworth, on West Pleasant street.

Sarah Sherwood was born in Delaware county, Ohio, Feb. 8, 1835, she was married to Royal Goodenow and they started life together on a farm in Clinton county. They lived on the farm until 1884 when they moved to Wall Lake and Mr. Goodenow became interested in a bank. After ten years residence at Wall Lake they returned to Maquoketa and since lived a retired life making their home with their daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Butterworth, who have kindly cared for them administering faithfully to their wants in their declining years.

Mr. Goodenow passed away in 1911.

A short time ago, perhaps about two years, Mrs. Goodenow suffered a fall and has since been more of less helpless. Even when misfortune visited her she smiled and was thankful it was no worse. She was always bright and cheery and was happiest when doing for others. She was only fifteen years of age when she became a Christian and joined the M. E. church. When health permitted she was faithful in attendance and has always been a liberal contributor.

She is survived by one brother, Nathan Sherwood of Council Bluffs and two daughters, Mrs. H. O. Butterworth and Mrs. Dee Phillips of Maquoketa; three sons, Melvin of Burwell, Neb.; Charles of Wall Lake and Bert of DuPree, S. D.

She who is now Mrs. Eliza Lingg of ElReno, Okla., was raised by Mrs. Goodenow. She was but seven years old when Mr. and Mrs. Goodenow took her to their home and have treated her with the same kindness as they did their own.

Mr. Sherwood, the brother, and all the children are here to be in attendance at the funeral.

Up to the hour of going to press the funeral date has not been set, as the family are waiting to receive an answer to a telegram sent to Mrs. Bert Goodenow at DuPree
