J. B. LeConte, the well-known St. Donatus blacksmith, passed away at Mercy hospital in Dubuque Saturday morning, his death following an operation for a growth in his neck.

Deceased was born about 70 years ago at Amesburg, Canton Mersh, Luxemburg, Europe, and came to this county in 1882. He located at St. Donatus where he worked at the blacksmith trade four years for Mr. Bonefas and then started in business for himself.

He was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Didie at St. Donatus in 1888, and to this union were born eight children, two of whom died in infancy. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: John of Dubuque, Mrs. Josephine Ambrosy of St. Donatus; Mrs. Matt Davis of Bellevue; Peter, Christian and Alois, all of St. Donatus.

Mr. LeConte was a man of unquestioned honesty who believed in giving 100 cents in value for every dollar he demanded for his labor. He had few equals as a mechanic and was highly respected in his home community.

Funeral services were held at the St. Donatus Catholic church of which he was a devout member, Monday morning, Rev. F. J. Vallaster officiating at the requiem mass and at the services at the grave.
