Funeral of Peter Petersen Held Last Saturday Morning

The funeral service of Peter Petersen, who passed away last Wednesday evening, was held from the home, 312 Niagara Street, on Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. The attendance was large, filling both the house and the lawn. And the floral offerings were numerous and fine, especially those of Danish friends and kindred. The service was conducted by Rev. A. W. Sinden, pastor of the Congregational Church and Mr. Robert Grapengeter sang.

Peter Petersen was born of Danish parentage in Schleswig-Holstein, formerly a part of Germany now returned to Denmark, on the 15 day of October 1865. As a young man he came along to America, arriving in the month of May 1892. He first went to the Western part of Iowa. But, after about a year he came across the state and took up his home in Maquoketa. And here has been his residence ever since. On the 25th day of September 1901 he was united in marriage to Miss Dora Fuglsang. To them two daughters were born, both of whom, with the beloved wife and mother, survive. They are Mrs. Hilda Henneke, who live south of Maquoketa. And Miss Alice, who is at home. There are also two sisters in his own family who still resided in Denmark. At the time of his death Mr. Petersen was in the sixty-second year of his age. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in the fatherland. And in that faith he lived and died. The body was laid to rest in the Union cemetery.
