Mrs. S. F. Huntington Laid to Rest

Mrs. Sarah Frances Huntington passed from this life Monday morning, April 15, after an illness that extended over several years. She had been tenderly cared for by her daughter, Mrs. A. R. McMeans, with whom she had made her home for a number of years. Born in Alleghaney City, Pa., Feb. 24, 1853, she was brought by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel R. Allen, to Jackson county three years later. The family settled in Otter Creek township, and here she grew to young womanhood, schooled in the nearby school and trained by wise parents in the fine things in life.

She was married to Wm. F. Huntington Oct. 1, 1874, and their married life was begun on a farm. They followed this vocation for more than 20 years on a farm between Andrew and Fulton, and then, in 1905, they retired to a home in Fulton.

Here, a few months later, the husband was called by death, and passed away June 25, 1905. Since that time she has made her home with their only child, Nellie. Surviving besides her daughter, are one brother, Will Allen, and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Quigley, both of Hawarden, Iowa.

Early in life Mrs. Huntington united with the United Presbyterian church of Andrew, and there retained her membership, though for the past eight years she has lived in Maquoketa. She was faithful to its teachings and rejoiced in its services.

For the past two years she has failed in health, but she has borne her affliction with fortitude. She has suffered serious illness for the past two weeks, and her sister, Mrs. Quigley, came from Hawarden to assist in caring for her and in making her closing days pleasant.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Harrison’s funeral home. Rev. McConnell, pastor of the United Presbyterian church in Andrew officiating. Rev. Boomershine of Maquoketa assisted him. Burial was made in Andrew cemetery.

Relatives and intimate friends from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. Margaret Quigley and W. W. Allen of Hawarden, Ia., Miss Lottie Huntington, Mrs. F. E. Hunter and daughter Charlotte of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Allison and Mrs. Whalen of Clinton and Mrs. A. J. Bruce of Vivian, S. D.
