Book of Life is Closed for Jos. T. Priaulx
Aged Resident Passes Away Saturday Morning –
Funeral Rites Held Monday Afternoon

Joseph T. Priaulx, well known and respected resident of Jackson county, died Saturday morning, Dec. 19 at his home, 623 S. Second street.

Joseph T. Priaulx, son of John and Elizabeth Babial Priaulx, was born at Iron Hill, Ia., May 30, 1853. His parents came to America from France on their wedding journey, and settled in Ohio. A few years later they moved to Iowa and settled on a farm near Iron Hill. When Mr. Priaulx was 11 years of age, his parents moved to Buckhorn, where he attended school, later attending college at Valparaiso, Ind.

Mr. Priaulx was one of a family of fourteen children, seven boys and seven girls, all having preceded him in death, except three sisters, Mrs. Lucy McNiel of Center Point, Ia., Mrs. Flora Flathers and Mrs. Susan Fahle of Kissimmee, Florida.

He was married to Dezire Anna Gifford of Madison, O., Sept. 1, 1881 at Maquoketa, who survives. To this union six children were born, Flora Dell of Maquoketa, William G. of Paraboo, Wis., Mabel Babcock of Wyoming, Ia., Mary Holtz of Maquoketa, Lois DeMoss of Emeline and Sarah who preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Priaulx celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Sept. 1, 1931. They have lived all of this time in Maquoketa and vicinity.

Mr. Priaulx has been a faithful member of the Free Methodist church for more than 40 years. He will be greatly missed.

The funeral service was held Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Free Methodist church, the Rev. Guy Pickering officiating. Interment was at Mt. Hope cemetery.
