Maquoketa Excelsior, May 25, 1865:

DIED

On board the steamer Pembina, on his way home from St. Louis, May 18, 1865, John C. Wendel, aged 64 years.

The deceased was one of the first settlers of this county, respected by all who knew him for his integrity, and leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Funeral services next Sabbath, at the Methodist Church in this city by Rev. Mr. Young, at half past ten o'clock. Mr. Wendel has been a Master Mason for a number of years.
