BELLEVUE — Esther A. Rubel, 87, of Bellevue, died Saturday at Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

She was born April 3, 1920, in Bellevue to Rudolph and Caroline Schlesch Schroeder. She married Melvin Rubel on Oct. 3, 1944, in St. Donatus. He died in 1999.

She attended country school in the LaMotte area.

Following school she helped her father on the farm and also worked at Gibson’s Manufacturing Co. She and her husband farmed until retiring and moving to Bellevue in 1978. She then did baby-sitting for 21 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara (Roger) Bies of Dubuque; two sons, Larry (Suzanne) Rubel of Epworth and Dennis Rubel of Maquoketa; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Berdella (Robert) Pitz of Dubuque.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, one brother and one son.
