HELEN M. SCHMALFELDT

Helen M. Schmalfeldt, 85, of Maquoketa, died Wednesday at Jackson County Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Carson and Son Funeral Home, Maquoketa. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service time Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Wyoming cemetery.

She was born Sept. 24, 1912, in Maquoketa, to William F. and Christina Petersen Beck. She married Clifford A. Schmalfeldt in March of 1941, in Memphis, Mo.

She attended country schools in the Maquoketa area.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Janice (Ron) Hyde of Marshfield, Mo., and Mrs. Carolyn (Robert) Garien of DeWitt; two sons, Clifford R. Schmalfeldt of Dubuque, and Harvey L. Schmalfeldt of Davenport; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lester Beck of Maquoketa and Willard Beck of Clinton; and two sisters, Elizabeth Stamp of East Moline, Ill., and Florence Beck of Maquoketa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, three brothers and a sister.
