A SAD DEATH.

The people of this vicinity were greatly shocked to learn yesterday morning of the death of Mrs. Stephen Winship from diphtheria, which occurred about one o’clock a.m. at the home west of town. The immediate cause of death was strangulation, the lady being unable to raise the membrane from her throat and was also unexpected as symptoms seemed to be favorable for her recovery. Mrs. Winship had had more than her share of trouble and sickness of late, having had a run of scarlet fever last fall, then the whooping cough and now the diphtheria in her enfeebled condition and she was unable to withstand the ravages of this fatal disease. At 10 o’clock on the day of her death her remains were laid to rest in Union church cemetery with out funeral as required by the regulations governing burial of those who die from this disease. She leaves a husband and six small children bereft of the greatest thing in the world – the love of wife and mother.

The deceased was a good, true, self sacrificing, amiable, lovable woman, who bore with patience, born of heroic soul all of the duties of life. She was the daughter of Hubert Tubbs. In her early girlhood her mother died and for several years she made her home with the family of her uncle, M. H. Tubbs. Here she met, loved and married Stephen Winship some eleven years ago and six bright children crowned their union, all of whom are left in sorrow when in so much need of a mother’s love and constant care.

The situation is a very sad one, and the grief for the departed, and sympathy for those bereaved is most profound.
