Romer – Carl Romer was born in Germany, Dec. 28, 1837, and died at Belden, Neb. Nov 17, 1905, aged 67 years, 10 months and 27 days. He came to America with his parents and settled in Wisconsin. Worked along the Mississippi river for the railroad bridge across the river at Clinton. He was married to Caroline Drumm Sept. 16, 1866, at Lyons, Iowa, and soon located just east of Maquoketa on a farm where he lived and labored and reared a large and respectable family. Moved to Maquoketa a few years ago and lived in retirement until his death. He was the happy father of eleven children. His wife died Oct. 29, 1904. The children surviving are Mrs. Ida Beihle, Charles and Fred of Belden, Neb., Adolph, Elizabeth, John, Eugene, Carrie and Nora of Maquoketa. He was a hard working man, honest, conscientious, a good neighbor and will be much missed by all.

Funeral services were held at the house on East Platt St., Tuesday, 2 p.m. and a very large circle of friends and relatives assembled to pay last earthly tribute to departed and show their sympathy to the sorrowing family. The floral offering from friends was large and appropriate. Burial was made on family lot in Mt. Hope, Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiated.
