Seneca Keeley Dies Suddenly

The sudden death of Seneca Keeley of Clinton, which occurred Sunday morning at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Keeley in this city, came as a great shock to his relatives and many friends here and in Clinton, as he was apparently in his usual health when with his wife and little daughter he arrived Saturday evening for an over Sunday visit with his parents. Death was due to heart trouble, which was caused by serious injuries sustained about a year and a half ago when he was helping lift some heavy timbers. Frequent recurrences of the trouble had caused him considerable suffering. About 10 o’clock Sunday morning when he was getting his car in readiness to accompany his wife to the home of her mother, he was suddenly stricken, and passed away a few minutes later.

Seneca Keeley was born August 13, 1871, in Jackson county where he spent his early life and for several years was employed as tinner by the hardware company known as Carter & Ringlep Co. About twenty-five years ago he with his family moved to Clinton where he had since been employed by the C. & N. W. Ry. Co.

He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Kelchner, March,1899, and they were the happy parents of eight children, Mrs. Ralph Mummert, who resides in Clinton; Emma, Francis, Arla, Sylvia, Laura and Zella, all at home. One little daughter preceded her father in death in February, 1914. Besides the widow and children, he is survived by his aged parents, one brother, Ara Keeley of Brooklyn, Ia., and four sisters, Mrs. Wylie Wilson, Mrs. A. C. Romer, Mrs. Ara Bowman and Mrs. Harry Glaser, all of Maquoketa.

Funeral services were held at two o’clock this afternoon at the home of his parents, Rev. Hawkins, pastor of the M. E. church in Clinton officiating. The Moose lodge of Clinton had charge of the services. Burial was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
