Maquoketa Record, April 5, 1905:
Patrick Sheean died at his home near Iron Hills, Wednesday morning, March 29, 1905, at 9:20 o'clock, aged 67 years, 11 months, 12 days. He was born in Ireland, April 17, 1837. He came to Iowa while yet young and was united in the holy bonds of wedlock to Miss Sarrah H. Davidson, November 11, 1865. To this union ten children were born, one son Willie who died about three years ago from the effects of an operation for appendicitus, leaving nine to survive with his wife, to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. He had been a sufferer of dropsy of the heart for eleven months. He endured much pain without complaint, but with patience and in spite of all that loving hands could do with the aid of physicians, he was called to the great world beyond. He made many friends wherever he went and he will be sadly missed from his immediate neighborhood. Many friends and acquaintances were in attendance to pay their last respects to the dead. Funeral services were conducted by Father Halpin, with interment in the cemetery at Otter Creek.
