Jackson Sentinel, October 27, 1898:
Bailey- Orlando Bailey was born in Syracuse, New York, Sept. 19, 1819. He was married to Lucy Hearing in the year 1840. They came to Antioch, Illinois in 1842, where they resided until coming to Maquoketa in 1870. His wife died here in 1889. There were five children born to Mr. and Mrs. Bailey, four boys, Christopher, John, Homer and Jason, and one girl, Addie, all of whom survive him. He has been ailing for sometime and died Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock past October 24, aged 79 years, 1 month and 4 days. He was a man who endured his sufferings with patience and so conducted himself in life as to hold the esteem and friendship of all who knew him. The funeral services took place at the home, Wednesday afternoon, October 26 at 2 o'clock, Rev. Fleming officiating. The remains were laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
