Maquoketa Record, March 24, 1908:
Jeosene Atzen, mother of Henry Atzen of this city, died at her home south of town on Saturday last. The funeral occurred Tuesday with interment in the cemetery at Grand Mound, where her relatives are buried. Mrs. Atzen was 81 years of age, had raised a large family and performed every duty in life well. She was a German and possessed in a remarkable degree the splendid qualities of the women of that sturdy race. Her friends are legion and she has been a resident of Clinton County for many years.
