STEVEN DAVIS OF MAQUOKETA DIES TUESDAY

Steven William Davis died Tuesday at his home in Maquoketa after an illness of about a year.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday in the Carson funeral home with the Rev. Milton Nothdurft officiating. Burial will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Mr. Davis was born in Cascade on Oct. 24, 1870, a son of James W. and Ella Gibson Davis. He was married Dec. 1, 1891 in Maquoketa to Luella Walp who preceded him in death on June 3, 1938. He was a retired horse buyer by trade.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Bess Murray of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Eleanore Mohr of Sterling, Ill., and Mrs. Hallie Florence of Maquoketa; two sons, Steven and Franklin both of Maquoketa; a brother, Bert Davis, and a sister, Gladys Roden, both of California; 25 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded by five children and seven sisters.
