DR. DAVID N. LOOSE, 96, DIES; LONG-TIME RESIDENT HERE
RETIRED MEDIC SUCCUMBS JAN. 30 IN ORLANDO, FLA.
Dr. D. N. Loose, 96, for nearly 45 years a physician and surgeon in Jackson county, died Wednesday morning in an Orlando, Fla., santitarium, where he had been residing for the past year. Funeral arrangements are pending.
As David Nathaniel, he was born Feb. 6, 1855, the son of William and Catherine Pfieffer Loose in Myerstown, Pa. The oldest living alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Loose received his medical degree in 1877. He also attended the Myerstown academy and the College of Franklin and Marshall.
Following several months' practice in Quincy, Mich., Dr. Loose came to Zwingle as its resident doctor on Nov. 9, 1877, and to Maquoketa in 1882. He was married on Oct. 11, 1883, to Francelia J. Spitzer at her home in Medina, Ohio. She preceded him in death on Oct. 9, 1938.
Just prior to World War I, Dr. Loose went to Vienna, Austria, for post-graduate work and returned here to practice afterward. he also returned east in 1884 for further medical schooling at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. Dr. Loose retired at the age of 80 in 1935.
A prominenet medical and a commmunity-minded man, Dr. Loose was one of the key figures in advocating the erection of a county hospital here.
