Maquoketa Record, July 25, 1906:
John Shanihan, an aged resident of Garry Owen, passed away at the home of his son, Patrick, in Otter Creek Township, on Wednesday evening, June 20, 1906. Mr. Shanihan was in his usual good health and died while sitting in his chair awaiting breakfast. He is survived by three sons, James, Thomas and Patrick and one daughter, Mrs. M.Donovan, all residents of Garry Owen. The funeral took place the following Thursday at North Garry Owen. Rev. Fathers Slattery and Rooney officiating. Interment in North Garry Owen Cemetery. - Lamotte News.
