HANS SUMTUM DIES SUNDAY

Hans Christian Sumtum, 83, died at his home in Maquoketa Sunday evening following an extended illness. The funeral service was held Wednesday at 2 o'clock at the Lutheran church with the Rev. H. Kumpf officiating. Burial was in the Pence cemetery.

Mr. Sumtum was born in Germany on Jan. 22, 1867, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Sumtum. He was married in Germany to Amanda Martha Kahleck on Nov. 9, 1889. He was a retired farmer.

He is survived by his widow, four daughters, Mrs. Anna Morehead of Monmouth, Mrs. Bertha Fuglsang of Wyoming, Mrs. Martha Schnoor and Mrs. Olga Munson of Maquoketa, 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. One chld preceded him in death.
