FUNERAL SERVICE HELD FOR DETLEFF KIRCHHOFF, PIONEER MAQUOKETAN
Funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Friday for Detleff Kirchhoff, 92-year-old Maquoketan who died at Jackson County hospital June 13 following a brief illness. The Rev. Harold Kumpf, of the Lutheran church, officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Born august 15, 1859 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, Mr. Kirchhoff had resided in Maquoketa for 70 years. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jordan Kirchhoff. He was married April 19, 1883 to Mary Hansen, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are five children Edward Kirchhoff and Miss Ann Kirchhoff of Maquoketa; Mrs. Dora Kostum of Grand Rapids, Mich., William Kirchhoff of DeWitt, and Mrs. Pauline Gately of Chicago, Ill. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Two children, two sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.
