Mary Jane Moore was born in Luray, Licking County, Ohio, December 27, 1827, and died in Maquoketa, Iowa, April 3, 1906, at the age of 78 years, 3 months, and 6 days. She was married to Isaac T. Twiss, August 8, 1850. To the union were born two daughters-Mrs. Harriet E. Dunlap of this city and Mrs. Clara L.. Sloan of Des Moines-who, with Mrs. Mary E. Bounds, of Mt. Vernon, a daughter of Mr. Twiss by a former marriage, survive her. Mr. and Mrs. Twiss and family removed to Iowa in 1856 and settled on a farm in Clinton County, where they resided until 1883, when they came to Maquoketa, continuing to reside here until their death. Mr. Twiss preceded his wife to the better land in August 1890. Mrs. Twiss was converted to our Lord Jesus Christ in 1858 and united with the Methodist Episcopel Church in which communion she remained a devoted member to the last. Her sweet Christian spirit and her devotion to her Heavenly Father were constantly manifest in her intercourse with her companions. She will be greatly missed. May her Saviour sustain her children in their great bereavement. The funeral services were conducted at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dunlap, by her pastor, the Rev. L.L.Lockard, on Friday afternoon, April 6. Appropriate music was rendered by Mesdames F.H.Wilson, and L.L.Black, and her neighbors gently bore her remains to their last resting place beside the husband in the Union Church Cemetery. (Maquoketa Record, April 11, 1906.)
