Mrs. G.W.Tabor Dies In Baldwin.
Ella Gilmore Tabor, daughter of Evans and Philipa Barret Gilmore, was born in Jackson County, Iowa, North of Monmouth, October 24, 1869 and passed away peacefully on January 10, 1953, at her home two miles north of Baldwin, Iowa, where she came as a bride and spent her entire life.
After graduating from Monmouth High School, she attended Cornell College at Mount Vernon, and prepared herself for a teacher. She taught school for three years. Children were always a great delight for her.
She was united in marriage to George W. Tabor of Baldwin, on November 27, 1890, and two sons and three daughters were born to this union-Howard and Clifford of Baldwin, Mrs. Leon Gray of Martinsville, Indiana, Mrs. Bruce Werden of Burlington, Mrs. William Stewart of Preston.
"Mom" Tabor as she was called by countless friends and neighbors, was blessed with an unusual love for people, nature and books. Many old and young have found a kind hospitality in her "wayside" home. She loved the out-of-doors and to "Mom" sympathy with nature was a part of a good person's religion.
She was a constant and rapid reader, loved the new books and magazines as they appeared. As a thinker she was clear and concise.
She was a charter member of the Baldwin's Women's Club and an active member where she never failed to please her Club Sisters with her unusual manner of presenting her program. She was active in the Women's Society of Christian Service and a member of the Baldwin Methodist Church.
To "Mom" Tabor health was wealth and she expressed her gratitude many, many times each day that she was so well and could enjoy her 10 grandchildren and her 8 great-grandchildren.
It was no wonder that in the dawn of the new day when she was taken ill that no murmur of complaint escaped her lips. She gave little warning and slipped away as she lived, in absolute love and devotion. Her parents and husband preceded her in death. Surviving are the five children; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Grandsons, Roger Stewart, Gordon Gray, Norman Leu, and Jack, Jim, and Dennis Tabor served as pallbearers.
Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Werden of Burlington, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lundy of Nevada, Dr. and Mrs. Leon Gray of Martinsville, and Mr. and Mrs. Merle Johnson of Nevada. (Jackson Sentinel, January 16, 1953.)
