Anton Gombert Rites Tuesday.
Last rites for Anton Gombert, 86, were held from the Carson Funeral Home here Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. The Rev. Harold C. Kumpf, pastor of the First Lutheran Church, officiated. Interment was made in the Andrew Cemetery. Mr. Gombert, in ill health for the past two years, died Sunday.
He was born in Girod, Germany, on October 28, 1866, and came to the United States at the age of fourteen. On Feb. 8, 1902, he was married to the former Christina Jorgensen, who survives him. The couple operated a farm three miles southwest of Andrew until they retired to Maquoketa in 1936. They observed their golden wedding last year.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by two sons, Chris Gombert of Zwingle and Clarence of Lost Nation; five daughters, Mrs. Florence Reed of Sabula, Mrs. Irene Gohlman and Mrs. Hilda Snoeberger of Lost Nation, Mrs. Eva Gohlman of Long Grove and Mrs. Mary Wiebenga of Maquoketa; and 26 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Mary Copp of Davenport, also survives. His parents, two brothers and six sisters preceded him in death.
