JOHN BURROWS CALLED BY DEATH
John Burrows, a long time resident and business man of this city, died at his home early Saturday morning after a brief illnesss. Mr. Burrows suffered an attack of the flu last February from which he never fully recovered and during the past few months his health had been gradually failing, but as he had always been exceptionally well and strong it seemed hard for even him to realize his condition and give up. He had been confined to his home for only two weeks and to his bed for just a few days when death claimed him.
He was born May 17, 1855 in Scott county. On August 8, 1876 he was united in marriage to Miss Allie Stewart and to this union were born five children, one, Nettie Bell, dying in infancy. His wife preceded him in death August 8, 1914.
He is survived by his four children: Roy Burrows, Mrs. Walter Raab, Mrs. Roy Airgood, Mrs. John Thompson; one brother, David Burrows and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Adams of Davenport; twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Mr. Burrows came to Jackson county in 1877 and lived on a farm near Iron Hill until 1900 when he moved to Maquoketa which place has been his home ever since and during which time he owned and conducted the feed barn on North Olive street. He was a member of I.O.O.F., holding his membership at Fulton.
Funeral Services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Congregational church, Rev. A.W. Sinden officiating, with the interment in Mt. Hope cemetery.
