THE PASSING OF JAMES A. HAYES
James A. Hayes was born Nov. 13, 1864 at Sheron, Pa., and departed from this life at the age of 60 years, 7 months and 4 days. When he was 6 years old he went with his parents to Andrew, Iowa, where he lived until moving to Maquoketa, of which place he has been a resident for the past forty years.
On June 20, 1891 he was united in marriage to Miss Nettie Speith, who survives to mourn his death, also one brother, Elsworth Hayes of Maquoketa and one sister, Mrs. Mary Starr of Andrew.
The deceased was affiliated with St. Mark's Episcopal church, the I.O.O.F. lodge and was a member of the Fire Kings of the fire department.
The illness of Mr. Hayes covered a period of four months, during which time he exhibited remarkable fortitude and patience.
He was an excellent citizen, a good man and an excellent husband, and was liked by all. His good fellowship and cheerful disposition was a marked and appreciated trait of charachter; and in his home particularly and to his many friends but few could exemplify a sweeter nature and more loving disposition than did James Hayes.
He entered into rest Friday at six p.m. The funeral services were conducted from the home at two o'clock Monday afternoon by Rev. David Ferguson, his pastor, with interment in Mount Hope cemetery.
