FUNERAL OF HULDA SUTHERS-VAN METER HELD SUNDAY
The news of the death of Mrs. Hulda Suthers-Van Meter who passed away at the City Memorial hospital shortly after midnight Friday morning, came as a shock to her friends in this city, few of who realized that she was seriously ill. Just a few days before her death Mrs. Van Meter was apparently in usual health attending to her home duties when she was suddenly stricken by illness, her condition continuing to become more serious and late Thursday night she was removed to the hospital where an operation was performed, the shock of which she was unable to withstand, death following within a short time.
Hulda Jane Suthers was born August 29, 1856, in Clinton county, Iowa, and when a small child her parents moved to Onawa, remaining there but a short time when they came to this city. She was the daughter of John F. and Nancy Suthers, honored early-day residents of our city and who passed away years ago. At an early age the deceased united with the Baptist church and was an earnest, consistent member throughout her life. For years she followed the occupation of seamstress until her marriage to John Van Meter on December 23, 1925, who with one brother, Hiram, of this city, and several nieces and nephews survive. Mrs. Van Meter was a woman who lived a true Christian life, always clinging closely to the preseps in which she had been taught to live in early childhood; a good neighbor and friend, a devoted wife and a splendid citizen has left us.
Funeral services were held at the late home on Arcade street Saturday afternoon, Rev. A.W. Sinden officiating. Interments was made in the Andrew cemetery.
