Eva F. Herkelman, 93, of Maquoketa died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa, following a brief illness.

A celebration of her life will be held Monday, May 7, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, with the Rev. Jeff Dadisman & Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery, Elwood.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Memorials may be given to the Elwood Cemetery or Camp Courageous.

Eva was born on August 13, 1913 north of Elwood, Iowa on a farm. Her parents were George W. and Cora (Rhea) Hamilton. She married Marvin L. “Buster” Herkelman on February 17, 1937 in Rock Island, Illinois. She graduated from Elwood High School in 1931 and was a member of the Elwood High School Alumni Association for over seventy-three years,

never missing a banquet. She was a member of the Methodist Church all of her life. She was a member of the Rachel Circle. She was involved with the UMW in Elwood for many years, holding many offices. She also was a member of the Jackson County Public Hospital Auxiliary, Alpheus Study Group, Michigan Club, Maquoketa Country Club, We R-8 Dinner Club, of Elwood, and various social clubs.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Marvin “Buster” Herkelman, of Maquoketa; 3 sons, Earl “Dude” (Joan) Galloway, of Lost Nation, Bill Herkelman, of Cedar Rapids, and Terre (Judy) Herkelman, of Henderson, Nevada; 8 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Donna Herkelman, the “Fey Kids” and a special niece Darleen Simmons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, one brother, five sisters and a daughter-in-law.
