SABULA — Jackie “Jack” Thayer, 76, died Monday at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula. Military rites will be accorded by Sabula Veterans of Foreign War Post 5234 and the American Legion.

He was born Feb. 4, 1931, to Eugene and Florence Bullis Thayer in Mitchell, S.D. He married Evelyn Hamilton on June 17, 1952, in Dubuque.

He graduated from Sabula High School in 1949.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War.

He was employed with the Milwaukee Railroad as an engineer for 35 years before retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the American Legion for 50 years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Don (Deb) Thayer and Stephen Thayer, both of Sabula; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one uncle, Wally Bullis of Savanna, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.
