LAST RITES HELD FOR MR. PETE PETERSEN, 73, TUESDAY, AUGUST 11TH.
Last rites were heldo for Mr. Pete PETERSEN, 73, from the Methodist church in Hurley on Tuesday, August 11th at 2 p.m. mr. PETERSEN pased away early Saturday morning in a Sioux Falls hospital where he had been a patient for many weeks.
Rev. Charles Finney officiated at the service. Interment was in the Hurley cemetery under the direction of Hofmeisters.
Casket bearers were Max Farrar, Richard Jensen, Sr., Fred Bishop, Wm. Spomer, D. A. Pingrey and Harry Thompson. Ushers were Boyd Christensen and Richard Jensen, Jr.
Arden Flyger, soloist, sang two numbers, "How Great Thou Art" and "Abide With Me" accompanied by Marcia Rundell, organist.
Peter PETERSEN, son of Christian and Johanna PETERSEN, was born September 30, 1890 at Preston, Iowa.
He spent his boy hood in Iowa and in 1914 came to South Dakota. In 1916 he was united in marriage to Ella ECKHOFF. To this union five children were born.
He farmed north of Hurley for a number of years, later moving to Hurley where he was employed at the Farmer's Union Elevator, except for a few years spent in California, until his retirement in 1954.
He was a member of the Hurley Methodist Church where he had served faithfully as usher and trustee. At the time of his death he was a member of its Board of Trustees.
After five months of illness he passed away on Saturday morning, August 8, 1964 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 9 days.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents, 2 sisters and one brother. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Ella; four children, Ilene of Los Angeles, California, Evelyn, Mrs. Gifford SHERARD of Hurley, Leland of Hurley and Merle of Fresno, California; six grandchildren; three brothers, Jens and Engvirt of Maquoketa, Iowa and Hans of Parker; three sisters, Mrs. Gottlieb BECK of Maquoketa, Iowa, Mrs. Clarence ANDERSON of Chicago, Illinois and Mrs. Harry ECKHOFF of Hurley; and by many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
