MAQUOKETA — Leonard “Vern” Brady, 86, of Maquoketa, died Thursday at his home.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, where a military flag presentation will be conducted by the Maquoketa American Legion Post 75, Maquoketa VFW Post 3633 O’Connor-Regenwether and the Andrew AMVETS Post 62.

He was born Nov. 16, 1920, in Emeline to John L. Brady Sr. and Edna Edwards Brady. He married Merle Dick on Dec. 30, 1945, in Maquoketa.

He grew up on a farm and was educated in the Emeline Country Schools.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was a farmer and had farmed in the Codfish Hollow area in Jackson County for more than 48 years.

He was a member of the Codfish Hollow Saddle Club and the Maquoketa American Legion Post 75.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Nancy (Tim) Parson of Sabula and Marsha (Dennis) Weets of Monument, Colo.; five grandchildren,; four great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Dorothy) Brady of Maquoketa; two sisters, Glatha (Kenny) Sayers of Muscatine and Janice (Jerry) Yarolem of Maquoketa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Leonard “Vern” Brady Memorial Fund has been established.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
