MAQUOKETA — Irene H. Risinger, 83, of Maquoketa, died Saturday at the Maquoketa Care Center.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.
She was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Preston to John F. and Inez Heath Beck. She married Elmer E. Risinger on Feb. 24, 1941, in Maquoketa. He died in 1969.
She was educated in rural Jackson County country schools.
She worked with the Fishing Tackle Co., Maquoketa, for a couple of years. She and her husband then moved to Welton where they farmed until moving back to Maquoketa in 1958. They then owned and operated the Haylock Hotel, Smith gas station, Dairy Sweet and the Maquoketa liquor store for many years. She then moved to Bellevue and owned and operated a restaurant and bar, Lock 12, for several years, before retiring and returning to Maquoketa.
She volunteered at the Maquoketa Community Center and Jackson County Public Hospital.
Survivors include one daughter, Coni (Mike) White of Maquoketa; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Beck of Nashville, Tenn., Maxine Harder of DeWitt, Edith (Jack) Viviana of Moline, Ill., and Violet Osborn of Sellersburg, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Alverda Beck and Kathy Beck, both of Preston; and several nieces and nephews.
An Irene H. Risinger Memorial Fund has been established.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters.
