MAQUOKETA — Doris A. Elkins, 77, of Maquoketa, died Wednesday at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa.

Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Maquoketa is in charge of arrangements.

She was born March 17, 1929, in Maquoketa, to Gilbert and Frances Koranda Lange. She married LeRoy J. Elkins on March 5, 1949, in Davenport. He died in 2003.

She was a 1946 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School.

She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. as a telephone operator until 1949. She then became a homemaker and a bookkeeper for the family businesses. They had operated two Texaco stations in Maquoketa, and later owned Elkins Auto Service in Maquoketa from 1965 to 1993. She also worked as a nurses aide for three years at Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa.

Survivors include several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son.
