GUNSHOT FATAL TO MONMOUTH MAN
Ira Edwards Is Accidentally Killed This Morning At Old Phillips Farm
Tragedy Occurs In Barn
Death Instantaneous From Shot Through The Heart
Between the hours of 11:00 and 12:00 today at the old Phillips farm, two miles west of Monmouth. occurred the death of Mr. Ira Edwards from wounds self inflicted by the accidental discharge of a shot gun.
Details of the tragedy are somewhat meagre, but from the best information obtainable at the hour of going to press it seems Edwards had just finished a conversation with a neighbor and gone to the barn to harness a team prepatory to driving to Monmouth on business. Almost simultaneous with his disappearce within the stable the report of the gun was heard and investigation revealed the lifeless body of Edwards lying on the floor. He had been shot through the heart and death had been instantaneous.
The exact manner of his death is necessarily a matter of conjecture, but it is supposed he picked up the gun with the muzzle pointed towards his body and that it was accidentally discharged.
Deceased was 31 years of age, married and the father of three children. He had numerous relatives and friends in Clinton and Jackson counties who will regret his untimely loss.
