Nears Century Mark – dated Oct 1, 1935 – from newspaper clipping
Maquoketa – Mrs. Sybil Griffin today attained her ninety-ninth birthday and early this morning had started to receive flowers, cards, messages and gifts from friends and relatives in Maquoketa and out of the city.
She is Jackson County’s oldest resident and is observing her anniversary in the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. E. Hainer. Mrs. Griffin, who was born Oct 1, 1835, in Glen Falls, NY came here in 1853 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Seneca Tubbs.
She married Hiram Griffin on her twentieth birthday anniversary, 79 years ago today, and he died in 1870. Until a few years ago she maintained her own home here, but her advanced years gave her family concern over her living alone, and she was persuaded to live with the daughter. Her health has not been good in recent months. One son, Harry, of Maquoketa, is also living.
