Memorial Service for President William McKinley at M. E. Church
Despite the inclemency of the weather quite a crowd gathered at the M. E. church at 11 o’clock today to show their respect and grief for our martyred president William McKinley. In the absence of Rev. Leiser, the regular pastor, Rev. Boomershine of Maquoketa delivered the address. He spoke briefly but eloquently upon the life of McKinley as a boy in his childhood’s home under the guidance of noble Mother McKinley; next of his college career, then his soldier life, his statesmanship and of his beautiful home life. The church was nicely decorated and our citizens feel very grateful to Rev. Boomershine for his kindness in assisting us to commemorate this occasion. President McKinley was shot and killed by assassin, Leon F. Czolgosz, while attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York.
