KILLED BY LIGHTNING-
During the severe storm of last Friday afternoon, Francis F. Chandler, a son of Mr. David Chandler of this city, while tending some cattle belonging to Ira Carter, in Sharon Township, Clinton County, took refuge under a tree. A flash of lightning struck the tree, instantly killing him and the horse which he was riding at the time. Not coming home as usual that night, a search was instituted in the morning., which resulted in the finding of a dead body. The only mark upon the body was a discoloration of the left side. He was buried on last Sabbath, the funeral services being held in the M. E. church. An immense concourse of people were present and a very impressive and appropriate sermon was delivered by Rev. Swearengen. Interment was in Mt. Hope cemetery. The young man was about eighteen years of age.
