Potter & Hayes Sawmill
The sawmill was built by Capt. E. G. Potter and William T. Hayes in 1856 or thereabouts, and was operated by them two or three years, then laid idle for about the same length of time when Mr. Potter purchased his partner’s interest. Brown & Meigs of Wisconsin then purchased it and conducted it for five years, Meigs selling his interest to the late A. J. Dorchester. In 1875, Brown sold his share to H. G. Dorchester, who with his uncle A. J., conducted the business for ten years, when E. K. Hughey succeeded the latter and became a member of the present firm. Mr. L. J. Brown, the present superintendent, has been identified with the industry since June 7, 1874, and has been an important factor in its success.
