REPUBLICAN CONVENTION
The Republican County Convention, which met in Andrew last Tuesday, was not very largely attended, but 79 delegates being in attendance. JOHN S. RAY was nominated for Clerk of the Courts over W. C. GREGORY, on the informal ballot, the vote standing 45 for Ray and 34 for Gregory. Mr. Ray is a young man who has been deputy for E. J. HOLMES for a number of years, and so far as we know is a young man of unexceptionable character. He was also, we believe, a private soldier during the War of the Rebellion, during which he lost his health. JOHN R. GRIFFIN is the present Recorder and is very popular in this city, where he resides. The ticket is a very strong one, and there is no use in disguising the fact that it will take hard work to beat it.
