AN ATTEMPT TO BE MADE TO BREAK THE WILL OF THE LATE SCHUYLER REYNOLDS

The appearance of Mr. Dudley Reynolds in our city with the expressed determination of breaking the last will and testament of his deceased father has created no little talk and a considerable surmise. Dudley naturally feels dissatisfied with only an annuity of $300 from a fortune estimated at a quarter of a million dollars, while his brother Edward feels likewise with an annuity of $200. They are therefore employing a strong counsel, and with the purpose in view of proving the testator weak minded when he made the will. As many might be interested in knowing the tenor of Schuyler Reynolds last will and codicil, we publish it verbatim as follows:

I, Schuyler Reynolds, of Maquoketa, Jackson County, Iowa, do make this, my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills and codicils made by me, and I do declare this to be my last will and testament.
First, That my Executor, hereinafter to be named, pay all my lawful debts of every kind and nature out of proceeds of my personal estate.
Second, I hereby give and bequeath to my son, Job Reynolds, all my real estate which I may possess at the time of my death, wherever the same be situated.
Third, I also give and bequeath to my said son, Job Reynolds, all personal property of which I may die possessed, of every name and nature.
Fourth, I also give and bequeath, and do by this instrument settle an annuity upon each of my two sons, Dudley Reynolds and Edward Reynolds. As follows: To be paid within one year after my death, and upon each succeeding year thereafter. Upon my son Dudley Reynolds the sum of Three Hundred Dollars, and to be paid each year thereafter during his natural life. And to my son Edward Reynolds, the sum of Two Hundred Dollars, and to be paid each year thereafter during his natural life.
Fifth, And I do further provide that the above mentioned two annuities be paid out of my personal estate by my executor hereinafter to be named until such time as he shall have converted sufficient amount of my estate into money as shall be necessary to purchase Government securities in such an amount as the net annual income or interest on the same will be sufficient to pay said two annuities and that my said executor shall keep said securities deposited in some bank as a special deposit, so long as said annuities are payable, and in no event are said annuities or either of them assignable or transferable, and an assignment or transfer of them or either of them shall work a forfeiture of that so assigned or transferred, and I hereby appoint my son, Job Reynolds, my sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament, and provide that he may administer as such without giving the usual bond.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this twenty fifth day of February, year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy Nine.
