March 22, 1890There have been no new developments of importance in the Nurre tragedy since our last issue. Dr. Bowen, who is attending Mrs. Nurre, reports that she is gaining steadily and he is quite confident that she will be able to tell who committed the horrible deed in a few days. The safe was drilled the first of the week. No money was found therein but $107,000 in notes, with nothing to indicate that the contents had been disturbed. Of course the burglar or burglars could not have used the notes and for aught that is known positively, quite a large sum of money may have been secured. A great many sensational rumors have been set afloat during the week, as always happens in such cases, but none of them have had any foundation in fact. The feeling seems to be quite general in the community that the guilty will be apprehended and punished. “Tis a consummation devoutly to be wished.”
