January 2, 1873LAMOTTE, Dec. 31.
We are happy to announce the prospects for a brighter future for LaMotte.
In consequence of the late death of Dominque Reis by drinks bought at the saloon here, the good citizens of town waited upon the proprietor, bought the stock on hand, and in the presence of some whose mouths watered at the sight, proceeded to empty five kegs of beer upon the ground. The proprietor entering into a written contract to sell no more of the vile compound and to rent to no one that would engage in the nefarious traffic. The friends of law and order think this to be a very good closing up of the old year, and wish that some of our neighboring towns might continue the good work begun here.
