Maquoketa Weekly Excelsior, October 30, 1873.

County seat moved to Maquoketa from Andrew.

The results of the General Election held on October 14, 1873, on the location of the county seat were 2,155 votes for Andrew and 2,344 votes for Maquoketa. The vote was for Maquoketa to be the county seat by 179 votes. The votes cast for Andrew to be the county seat were mainly from the Bellevue and Andrew areas and the votes for Maquoketa from the southern part of the county.
