Female Married Teachers Not Allowed

-The Maquoketa school board do not encourage matrimony and will hereafter consider marriage, among their female teachers equivalent to a resignation. The members of the board are all married men, but you wouldn’t for a moment on glancing over the honorable body, and knowing their interesting families, think that they too, considered marriage a failure. But these men, these awful men are sometimes human puzzles. But seriously, we do believe as the board do, that married teachers with greater or less domestic duty to perform, are not heart and soul in their educational work, as most of the unmarried teachers are. They haven’t that deep interest in their pupils, which means the incentive for industry and progress.
