Weekly Maquoketa Excelsior,
June 25, 1861.SARTWELL’S MILL. – Last week we made a short visit to the steam saw mill of ASA SARTWELL & SON. Having often heard it pronounced one of the best in the State, we had a desire to see it, and we are well satisfied that its capabilities have not been over estimated. The mill was built by the present owners some five years ago, and it was put up solid and durably. The engine was manufactured at the “Eagle Foundry,” Nunda, Livingston County, N. Y., by Messrs. PAYNE & SKINNER, and it has proved to be one of the very best. It runs without making the least noise and is apparently as good as new. This mill is located at Iron Hill, in the midst of one of the finest bodies of timber in the State, where logs of the best quality can be procured on short notice. The mill is now turning out about four thousand feet per day, and all ordered entrusted to the care of the proprietors will be finished on short notice. Pass them in, and you need have no fears of the water falling or the dam going out.
