Clinton Herald, re-printed in the Sabula Gazette, February 26, 1876.

Black Hills Gold.

A man named Barker who has arrived at Preston from the Black Hills, tells wonderful stories of the gold resources of that region. He has in his possession some rich specimens of quartz, and says the poorest digging where he visited yielded three cents per panful of dirt. At this rate, old miners say, a man can wash out $35 per day. Several parties are fitting out for the Hills from Preston, DeWitt and other neighboring points.
