Effie Afton strikes bridge.

Maquoketa Sentinel, May 22, 1856.

The Effie Afton-

The Cincinnati Commercial learns that the Effie Afton was insured for only $15,000. The boat itself was valued at above $40,000, and the cargo at from $30,000 to $40,000. Capt. Hurd, says that paper, will at once commence a suit against the Bridge Co., for damages sustained in the loss of his boat.
(Abraham Lincoln was later retained to defend the Rock Island Railroad Company in this lawsuit.)
