227 Income Returns Were Filed in 1929 in Jackson County

In 1929, 227 person in Jackson county filed income tax returns, according to a report made public by the commissioner of internal revenue.

Of this number, 31 individual returns were filed in Bellevue; 123 in Maquoketa, and all other communities in the county, 73.

Clinton-Clinton, 911; DeWitt, 97; miscellaneous, 109; total, 1,117.

Jones-Anamosa, 56; Monticello, 66; miscellaneous, 41; total, 163.

Cedar-Tipton, 45; miscellaneous, 109; total, 154.

Scott-Bettendorf, 59; Davenport, 2,848; miscellaneous, 112; total, 3,019.

The average net income in the state per tax return was $4,933.11 and the average tax per return $87.17. All of Iowa paid a tax of $3,924,823.

The report shows there are 3,329 bachelors who are heads of families in the state with a net income of $12,397,294 and 10,491 bachelors without family obligations whose income is $32,814,651. Among those making returns in the state were 1,060 single women with a net income of $3,811,056. These were women who were heads of families. The state also has 3,691 other single women without family obligations whose net income is $14,226,346.
